Despite numerous question marks and uncertainties for the Tigers at the beginning of the season, the 1974 team will be recorded as one of the truly great ones in the annuals of Rockwood High School football programs. Coach Mike Collier's 1973 team posted an outstanding record with its 8 wins and 3 losses, but both the coaching staff and the everyday fans of the Tigers were somewhat skeptical of the team's chances for the 1974 season. However, the Tigers were fortunate enough to have several returning lettermen. With this nucleus of experienced performers, the Tigers went on to post 10 wins against 1 loss.

The last game of the season was with Knoxville Farragut in the Clinton Jaycee Bowl. The Defense clinched the 14-0 victory for the Tigers. This team's defense will be remembered as one of the most outstanding in Tiger Football history. The Tigers one defeat was by Loudon in a close battle of the undefeateds. Again Rockwood's fantastic defense held the opposing team, but the Tigers were defeated 14-7 in one of the most hard fought games ever played on Civitan Field. Despite such a good record, the Tigers missed the playoffs this year but they compiled the best football season record since 1947!!
