Game Summary By Ed Greif
A fourth-quarter goal-line stand by the
Rockwood Tiger defense stopped a Harriman
Blue Devil drive for a winning touchdown,
sealing the Tigers' 13-7 victory over the
Blue Devils in the oldest rivalry contest in
the state of Tennessee.
Trailing 13-7 late in the fourth quarter,
Coach Travi Tapp's squad used the running of
Trezdon Copeland, Jayden Prather, Bradly
Frost and Kylann Love to move the ball to
the Tiger 2-yard line, but the Tiger defense
led by Dylan Williams, Octavious Worthy, Jai
Worthy, Nate Brackett, John Metcalfe and Taz
Bazel stopped the drive on downs at the
Tiger 4-yard line, as O. Worthy and Bazel
stopped Kylann Love for a 2-yard loss.
Rockwood then went into the victory
formation to kill the clock.
The Tigers used a 5-play, 70-yard drive to
take a 7-0 lead with 9:12 left in the first
first quarter on a 21-yard pass from Bracket
to Bazel and Ben Woodall's PAT. Williams had
a 23-yard run to set up the TD pass.
Harriman's enusing drive was stoppped on
downs, with Harriman forcing Rockwood to a
3-play and out, taking over at heir 30-yard
line.
The Blue Devil running attack pickd up 43
yards on seven carries, but Michael Green
Jr. fumbled at the Tiger 30,. with Metcalfe
recovering for Rockwood. Rockwood used a
16-play, 63-yard drive to take a 13-0 lead
on Bazel's 3-yard run with 6:24 left in the
half. Bazel, O. Wrothy, Bracket and Williams
picked up 60 yards rushing, while Bracket
passed 18 yards to Williams for a big first
down. The two-point conversion failed.
Harriman retailated with a 6-minute pass
drive on the running of Darmarion Darby,
Frost, and Love, but the Tiger defense led
by Evans, Bracket, Gann, Dade Turner and
Bazel forced a three-play and out., but the
Tiger drive was held to 3-plays and out.
Love passed two yards to Copeland, but Cofer
recovered Copeland's fumble on the last play
of the half.
Rockwood rushed for 120 yards on 22 carries
and completed 3-of-5 passes for 63 yards,
while Harriman rushed for 70 yards on 17
carries and completed 1-of-5 passes for 12
yards. Brackett punted twice for 42.5 yards.
Harriman took the second half kick and drove
65 yards in 11 plays on the running of
Copeland, Prather and Green to score on
Green's 10yard run with 7:44 left in the
third quarter. Moore's PAT made it 13-7.
Rockwood's offense never got untracked in
the third quarter, rushing for 47 yards on 7
carries with just two first downs, while
Harriman rushed for 69 yards on 11 carries
with four first downs. Harriman opened the
fourth quarter with a nice drive, higlighted
by an 18-yard pass from Frost to Jayden
Hannibal, but the Tiger defense led by
Williams, O. Worthy, Gann, Austin Quick,
Bazel and Turner forced a punt, but,
Rockwood was held to three plays and out,
setting up the Blue Devils' final drive.
Williams rushed for 52 yards on 18 carries
and caught three passes for 46 yards to
spark the Tigers, while Bazel rushed for 43
yards on 13 carries and had one catch for 21
yards with both Tiger scores. O. Worthy
rushed for 49 yards on 5 carries. Bracket
completed 4-of-10 passes for 67 yards,
punted five times for 44.4 yards and
returned one punt 13 yards.
Leading tacklers were O. Worthy 5 solos, 4
assists), Wiliiams (5 solos, 2 assists),
Gann (4 solos, 3 assists), Metcalfe (3
solos, 1 assist, 1 fumble recovery) and
Evans (3 solos, 3 assists).
Rockwood hosts Oneida this Friday, before
having an open date on Oct. 5.
