Game Summary By Ed Greif
The Rockwood Tigers played their third
county rival in four weeks, the Kingston
Yellow Jackets on Civitan Field at Tom
Pemberton Stadium, losing 28-14, as the
visiting Jackets scored 21 unanswered point
to take the victory to even their record to
2-2. The Tigers fell to 1-3.
Owen Hyle returned the opening kick 17 yards
to the Tiger 28-yard line. Running plays by
Dakota Waldo, Jayden Hannibal and Nate
Brackett picked up 17 yards tp the
Rockwood45-yard line, where Waldo exploded
through the Yellow Jacket defense to give
the Tigers a 6-0 lead with 9:05 left in the
first quarter. Ben Woodall, who was 1-3 in
PAT kicks, booted his of the sixth to give
RHS a 7-0 lead.
Marcus Rose returned the ensuing kick to the
Yellow Jacket 35-yard line, allowing the
Jackets to go to the running of Rose, Hunter
Brackett and Eliza Hill to move the ball
into Tiger territory; however, the Tiger
defense led by Gavin Evans, Michaiah Story
and Octavious Worthy stopped the Jacket
march on a fumble recovery by Worthy, who
left the game later with an injury.
Rockwood took over at their 47 after the
recovery and moved the ball in Kingston
territory, but a penalty eventually led to a
punt, after Nate Brackett was stopped a
2-yard gain. Kingston took over at their
12-yard line and moved the ball on the
ground led Rose,Hunter Brackett and Hill and
a 32-yard pass from Kane Collins to Issac
Cox. The first quarter ended with Jackets at
the Tiger 10-yard line.
Rockwood rushed for 74 yards on nine
carries, while holding the Yellow Jackets to
50 yards rushing on 11 carries and 32-yards
passing on 1-of-1 passing. Kingston resumed
the drive to start the second quarter with
two carries for 4 yards and two incomplete
passes to give the ball back to the Tigers
on downs at the Tiger 6-yard line.
The Tigers had four carries for 12 yards,
but a penalty and a fumble ended the drive
and forced a 45-yard punt by Nate Brackett,
giving kIngston the ball at their 47. Four
plays later, Hill scored from the 3-yard
line for a touchdown, set up by a 46-yard
pass from Collins to Isacc Cox. Preston
Allen booted the PAT to tie game at 7-7.
After the enusing kick, the Tigers were held
to three plays and out, giving the ball to
the Yellow Jackets at the Kinsgont 21-yard
line. Pudge Hannibal stopped Hill for a
one-yard loss, forcing a second and 11 pass
by Collins, who was picked off by Jack
Alexander and returned for 26-yard
touchdown. Woodall's kick made it 14-7.
Kingston took over at their 40 after the
kickoff went out of bounds, but the Tiger
defense led by Pudge Hanniball, Michaiah
Story and Nehemiah Storey forced another
punt. The Tigers got the ball back and ran
three running plays toi end the first half
ahead 14-7.
The second got off to inauspicious start for
Tiger fans, as Rose returned the kick 85
yards for a score. Allen's PAT tied Jcore at
14-14. Jayden Hannibal returned the ensuing
kick eight yards, but the offense picked up
2-yards rushing on three carries and
12-yards passing on a toss from Nate
Brackett to Dillon Garrett, but a holding
penalty doomed the drive, forcing another
punt by Nate Brackett.
After 57-yard punt by Brackett, the Yellow
Jackets took over at their 22-yard line,
where they marched the distance in 14 plays
inside the Tiger 5-yard line.A 54-yard run
by Hill highlighted the drive, but a fumble
at the Rockwood 4-yard line ended the drive.
Jackson Kelley, who made the recovery, was
assisted on dfense by Josiah Gilbert,
Michaiah Storey, Nate Brackett, Dakota
Waldo, Evans and Garrett; however, the drive
stalled and Brackett was forced to punt.
Jayden Hannibal suffered a leg injury in the
drive and was helped off the field.
Kingston's next drive suffered another
fumble, recovered by Gilbert at the Tiger
26-yard line. Rockwood used the running of
Brackett, Waldo and Alexander; howver, the
drive stalled, forcing another punt by
Brackett.
Kingston took over at their 24-yard line and
drove the distance in six plays, capped by a
29-yard run Brackett. Trey Schultx completed
2-of-2 passes for 26 yards, including a
26-yard to Hill. Allen's PAT made it 21-14.
The ensuing drive by the Tigers was stopped
on downs at their 24, where Kingston marched
the distance in six plays to score on Hill's
6-yard run. Allen's PAT made the final score
28-14, as time expired on the Tigers' next
possession.
The Tigers will host ther 4-0 Meigs County
Tigers this Friday in a region contest on
Civitan Field at 7:30 p.m.
