Sjohn Ross Lyle passed 17 yards to Andrew
Burton with 34 seconds left in the third
quarter to give the Midway Green Wave a 6-0
victory over the Rockwood Tigers on a rainy
night South of the River last Thursday
evening. The two-point conversion failed.
Coach Ryan Minton used a trio of runners -
Burtin. Lyle and Jason Taylor - to take the
lead. The trio picked up 45 yards on eight
carries, while Taylor completed 3-of-5
passes for 23 yards to set up Lyle's toss to
Burton.
Rockwood had two fourth-quarter possessions
to score the go-ahead touchdown, Anthony
Bell returned the ensuing kick seventy
yards, but a holding penalty set the Tigers
back. Running plays by Dylan Williams, Taj
Basel and Nate Brackett toted the pigskin;
however, the Green Wave defense held and
forced another Brackett punt.
Coach John Webb's squad slowed the Green
Wave offense and forced another punt, taking
over at the Tiger 37-yard line.
Brackett passed to Dade Turner for a crucial
first down, but a quarterback sack of
Brackett and a fumble after a reception from
Brackett to Bazel ended the drive in Green
Wave territory, The Green Wave run out the
clock for their first victory over the
Tigers in several years.
The Tigers had two possessions in the first
quarter, rushing for 52 yards on nine
carries and completing 2-of-6 passes for 11
yards with just four first downs, while
Midway rushed for 25 yards on five carries
and completed 6-of-10 passes for 42 yards
with five first downs.
Rockwood's offense sputtered in the second
quarter, collecting 8 yards rushing on four
carries and 2 yards passisng on 1-of-3
passes with zero first downs, while the
Green Wave picked up seven first downs on 10
rushes for 72 yards and 85 yards on 9-of-17
passes.
In the crucial third quarter, the Tigers
claimed 61 yards rushing on 11 carries,
while Midway picked up 45 yards
rushing and 40 passing on 4-of-6 passes.
