Game Summary By Ed Greif
The Rockwood Tigers scored on four of
their five possessions to defeat the
Cumberland Gap Panthers 36-0 to finish the
regular season 6-4 overall and 2-2 in Region
2-2A and a berth in the playoffs this Firday
at Hampton.
Rockwood's first possession went three and
out, and the Tiger defense led Caleb Bowen,
Dylan Williams and John Gann forced a short
punt, taking over at the Tiger 11-yard line.
The running of Williams, Octavious Worty and
Bowen picked up 79 yards on 13 carries with
first downs to the Indian 11-yard line to
close out the first quarter. On the first p
lay of the second quarter, Bowen scored the
Tiger;s first TD for a 6-0 lead with 11:52
left in the half. Ben Woodall booted the PAT
for a 7-0 lead.
Cumberland Gap took the ensuing kickoff and
moved the ball on the ground, picking up 13
yards on six carries. Two incomplete passes
derailed the drive. Gann, Wiliams, Austin
Orr and Gavin Evans led the Tiger defense.
Rockwood took over at their 10-yard line,
and, again, used the running of Nate
Bracket, Williams, Worthy and Bowen picked
up 85 yards on 14 carries to take a 13-0
lead on Wothy's 5-yard line. The PAT was no
good.
The Panthers took over at 49 and completed
2-of-4 passes for 31 yards with two first
downs to end the first half.Caden Brunsma
hit two passes to Ethan Daniels. Rockwood
rushed for 171 yards on 30 carries with two
TDs, while holding the Panthers to 17 yards
on 11 attempts.
Cumberland Gap took the ensuing kick at the
Rockwood 41-yard line, but the Tiger defense
led Gann, Jack Alexander, Worthy, John
Metcalfe and Williams stopped the Panthers
on downs at the Rockwood 20-yard line. The
Tigers sacked the Panther quarterback to end
the drive.
Rockwood drove the distance in 13 plays to a
19-0 lead with 2:04 left in the third
quarter on Worthy's 3-yard line. Bowen,
Worthy and Worthy carried the ball 11 times
58 yards, while Bracket completed 1-of-2
passes for 22 yards. Garrett caught the
22-yard pass. Woodall's PAT was no good.
The Indians took the ensuing kick at their
30-yard line and used a mixture of running
and passing to move the ball into Tiger
territory, as the third quarter concluded;
however, the drive stalled on downs at the
Tiger 19-yard line. Brunsma completed 3-of-5
passes for 40 yards.
Rockwood drove 89 yards on 14 plays, to take
a 25-0 lead on Evan's 4-yard run with 1:31
left in the game. Woodall's PAT made it
26-0. Evans had three carries for 18 yards
and had assistance from Bracket, Bowen,
Worthy, Abe Gaskins and Williams. Cumberland
Gap ran three plays to end the game.
Williams rushed for 106 yards on 18 carries,
while Worthy added 102 yards on 13 rushes
with two TDs. Bowen added 50 yards on nine
rushes for the Tigers, who rushed 294 yards
on 50 attempts. Bracket completed 1-of-3
passes for 22 yards.
Rockwood held the Panthers to 44 yards on 21
carries and completed 7-of-17 passes for 92
yards with on nine first downs.
