The 1974 Rockwood tiger football team
will go down as the best football team in
Rockwood history. In 1974 the Tigers,
Coached By Mike Collier, were coming off an
8-3 year in 1973. The Tigers entered week 8
undefeated at 7-0 and took on the top ranked
and undefeated Loudon Redskins at Civitan
field with probably the largest crowd to
ever witness a game at Civitan Field.
The Tigers lost in a close game that they
should have won 14-7 and the Redskins went
on to go undefeated winning the state title.
The Tigers finished that year going 10-1
beating Farragut 14-0 in the Clinton Jaycee
Bowl. For the year the Tigers had 5 shutouts
while outscoring their opponents by a score
of 259-46. Loudon was the only team to score
more than 7 points on the Tigers. This team
started a 5 year run that saw the Tigers go
55-5 winning the title in 1976 and losing in
the semis in 1975 and 1977.
