The Story of the 1957 Season
To say this was one of our best seasons in football would be the understatement of the year. Our 9-2 record was the best in 10 years and if one considers our dismal beginning it would be the best in history. We began the season with several key positions to be filled and with boys lacking experience but having grim determination, we began the task of moulding a championship football team. Early season injuries played havoc with our plans and shortly before the opening game it became necessary to make hurried shifts that eventually paid dividends but not in our first few games. After losing two of three starts, we began to find ourselves and the results of our last eight games is now history.

We annexed our first Tri-County football championship with a thrilling, well played 20-13 win from Harriman and along with this win came the Roane County Championship. Next in line was the Jaycee Bowl and our 7-6 win over previously unbeaten Jefferson City was a fitting climax to a great season. Credit for the success of the team must go to the boys in uniform, the heros, the underrated players, and even the boys in substitute roles. Their fight and unyielding spirit will long be remembered as we look back over the years of football at Rockwood High School.
